"Hidden likes on Instagram??? What is that about?"

This news came out towards the end of last year and smaller groups have been randomly selected to test this function.

Here's what you need to know:

Likes will not be disappearing altogether - they will just be hidden to followers. Users will still be able to view how many likes they’ve received on their own posts.

So you'll see "liked by leiamowen and others" under posts instead of "liked by leiamowen and 12,345 others," for example.

This is an effort by Instagram to provide safe and healthy experiences and protect the mental health of its users (something championed by Instagram's fastest growing demographic, Gen Z).The focus will be on conversations, community, and connection instead of "who got how many likes".

Likes may be disappearing, but there's a hot new engagement metric you should be tracking anyway!

Instagram 𝕤𝕒𝕧𝕖𝕤 - which are represented by a bookmark symbol - indicate when someones has "saved" your post so they can return and check it out later.

Posts that are most likely to be saved include videos, infographics, informative and detailed ("long form") captions, and quotes.

And (you guessed it!) the more saves you get on any given post, the more accounts the algorithm will show it to.
